St Mirren striker aiming to get one over on old school pal Adam Collin

Cumbrian striker Lewis Guy insists he is aiming to interrupt Carlisle United’s smooth pre-season tonight – and put one over on an old classmate.

The St Mirren player will line up against the Blues in Brunton Park’s first summer friendly and is setting his sights on scoring past his former school friend Adam Collin.

Guy and United goalkeeper Collin were in the same class at Penrith’s Ullswater School and were also team-mates on Newcastle’s books before going their separate ways.

And the SPL frontman wants to come out on top when they are reunited tonight.

Guy said: “The moment I found out St Mirren were playing Carlisle it seemed quite fitting and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I go back years with Adam and I’ll be sending him texts to let him know I’ll be knocking a couple past him.

“He was a quiet lad at school, just went about his business as he does now, and he’s done really well since bouncing back into the league with Carlisle.

“But I scored past him the last time I played at Brunton Park with Oldham and hopefully I can do the same again.”

Guy, from Pategill, Penrith, is aiming to relaunch his career with the SPL club after spells with Doncaster, MK Dons and Oxford.

The 26-year-old has been with St Mirren since January but was not allowed to play for them last season because he had already played for two English clubs in 2011/12.

He is now free to resume his career and is hoping to make an impact against Greg Abbott’s Blues – a side he still harbours ambitions of playing for one day.

“From a team point of view it is mainly about improving fitness and getting an understanding, but from a personal point of view it is a very important game,” Guy said.

“It is a local game for me and the people there won’t have seen me play for a few years and maybe have a question mark over me.

“There is a bit more pressure on with me being from the area and obviously I have a soft spot for Carlisle.

“They are my local team and it would be nice one day to play for them. There have always been rumours but for whatever reason it’s never happened.

“I know they’re in good shape at the moment and when the lads have asked me what to expect I have told the truth – to expect one of the toughest and most competitive games we will play in pre-season.”

Guy is trying his luck in Scotland after being reunited with his former Newcastle coach Tommy Craig, who is number two to St Mirren boss Danny Lennon, the former Gretna midfielder and youth coach.

He added: “It’s been frustrating not being able to play but I’m bedded in now and ready for a fresh start.

“I’ve got a couple of good friends who have came up to Scotland to play and they’ve raved about it. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Adult tickets for tonight’s game are £13 seating/£12 standing.
