No plans to review Abbott's position says Carlisle Utd chairman

Carlisle United say there are no plans to review manager Greg Abbott's position next month.

The club has released a statement this afternoon following comments made in a radio broadcast by director Norman Steel, who described the next four league matches as “crucial” to the Blues' season.

He added: “At this moment in time there are no plans to be looking at the manager’s situation. We feel that clubs often act too quickly following three or four poor results and we are confident that things will get better.”

However, he later suggested that Abbott’s position would be reviewed at the end of January if results did not improve.

The 18th-placed Cumbrians are due to face Shrewsbury (A - Dec 15), Scunthorpe (A - Dec 22), Hartlepool (H - Dec 26) and Bury (H - Dec 29) - all below them in League One.

Club chairman Andrew Jenkins today said: "As chairman and on behalf of the board of directors I can confirm that there have been no discussions at all about the manager’s position and there have been no time frames set in any way by any member of the board.

“The views expressed to Radio Cumbria on Tuesday night were not representative of the feeling of the board of directors and are not a reflection of our current stance.”

Have your say

I think its time to get behind Abbott and push him out the door.

Abbot was coach under John Ward.......so have we progressed since then I think not.
The board should focus on the what's going at Brunton Park not in Kingstown.
