New Coventry boss expecting stern Carlisle Utd test

New Coventry boss Mark Robins admits he’s set for the toughest possible start to his reign today against Greg Abbott and Carlisle United.

The Sky Blues manager takes charge of his first game today against United’s Coventry-born boss who Robins says knows League One like the back of his hand.

The Ricoh Arena clash pits the third tier’s newest manager against its longest serving, with Abbott closing in on four years at the Carlisle helm.

Robins, the 42-year-old former Barnsley and Rotherham boss has been charged with improving the fortunes of the former Premier League club who are second bottom after seven games.

But he does not expect an easy introduction this afternoon.

Robins said: “I’m delighted to start with a home game but Carlisle have been doing pretty well and Greg has done a decent job there.

“He loses a player every now and again, because they sign decent lads that go on somewhere else.

“They are a club that develops players.

“Greg has been there for a few years now and you have to take your hat off to him.

“He knows the division inside-out and I’m sure we will be in for a stern test. We have to be ready for that and we will be.”

Robins could make changes to the side that lost 4-1 at Shrewsbury on Tuesday, with Gary McSheffrey, Cody McDonald and John Fleck hoping for recalls.

Manchester United loan defender Reece Brown is also in the frame as Carlisle face Coventry in the league for the first time since the Blues’ 1974/5 First Division campaign.
