Carlisle Utd want loan striker in before Crewe game

Carlisle United were expected to bring in a loan striker in time to figure in tonight’s League One clash with Crewe at Brunton Park.
United have been targeting Huddersfield’s Kallum Higginbotham.
Manager Greg Abbott has insisted he is not “feeling sorry” for himself despite his ongoing battle to add new players to a thin Carlisle United squad.
The Blues team to face Crewe has been depleted by midfielder James Berrett’s suspension, but Abbott is urgently seeking reinforcements in attack.
Against Swindon on Saturday Abbott was able to pick an unchanged team for the first time this season but that luxury is again denied him tonight.
The United boss hopes to bring in new signings soon, as he eyes loan targets at Premier League and Championship clubs.
“I never feel sorry for myself but I want people to know the job at the moment is very difficult,” Abbott said. “We are going to scrap for everything we get, ride ourselves through this period and try and improve the strength of the squad, somehow. Even if it is a case of finding players on peanuts, we have to keep the squad at a level where we can compete.”
Crewe boss Steve Davis, without suspended loanee Chuks Aneke and injured pair Harry Bunn and Mathias Pogba, will put right-back Matt Tootle on the wing.
