Carlisle Utd eye Scunthorpe striker Garry Thompson

Carlisle United are showing interest in axed Scunthorpe striker Garry Thompson, News & Star Sport has learned.

Have your say

trust the manager...he knows what he needs and has rarely got it wrong.

You cannot judge a persons strike record with another team. Don't forget Scunthorpe were struggling after being relegated from the Championship the previous season.
Carlisle succeed on team work and perhaps this striker is a perfect addition to this squad.
Time will only tell and we know he's on a free release and his wages won't be massive coming to Carlisle. Also, Greg won't sign any striker on a long contract, until he's proven himself.
I'm a doubter too, but trust Greg to sign what he believes could be an asset to the team. Let's give him a chance. This is only one possible player being looked at.

To all the people moaning already about this guys goalscoring ability...how often do we sign players with proven goalscoring records!?

We're Carlisle United not Chelsea

Did Lee Miller come here with a great record? No.

Judge the players when you've seen them play not just on paper.

People should not be surprised we don't have any money to spend , Its a mix bag with Gregg likes of Miller great, Craig Curren not so great . 20 in 130 games am surprised he still as the nerve to call himself a forward lol

I cannot believe the negativity on these comments.
Perhaps, just perhaps there is something special greg has seen that we havent.
Maybe he is a good honest lad who puts in a really decent shift? could we really ask for more??

Nothing is definate yet, but he has no harm in looking at him. Look at Jermaine Beckford, he could'nt make the grade here, then went to Scunthorpe and bang bang bang! never looked back since!

Come on boys, dont be so negative, its one goal every six and a half games!!!

surely he's not a striker with that record!? Andy Williams would be a much better option, got 17 goals for yeovil last season and has rejected a new contract. He can play either winger or striker too

rather concerned about this one Greg! Is he really the answer we need? really hope he does not sign him!

Better than what we have ? I would much rather have him than madden !
