Carlisle Utd boss only needs two signings if squad stays intact

Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott insists he could need no more than two summer signings if he keeps the core of his squad together.

Have your say

Some of you guys need to get real. We a good team, capable if being excellent on its day, and yes capable if its off days. Two more players sounds about right to me. Some areas need some more competition but a squad revamp it going over the top. People still going on bout signing Offiong is ridiculous! Another good season ahead I think.

Huddersfeild fans whished they had a keeper like ares, so did shef wed had a couple of bad games but what is he meant to do when dfence leave him wide open we can not have a keeper like westwood again stop critissing one player and be fair most pundits see him as one of the best in league 1

I think more than two are needed with a 'Lee Miller like'
figure in midfield a priority. With one of the worst defences in
the division surely that needs addressed.Agree another goal
scorer would be nice but they are not easy to find and don't
forget Loy could fit the bill.
Also I hope the News and Star are keeping Jon Colman and
Radio Cumbria James Phillips as they are great for the club
as well.

Two signings, You must be joking - Unless one is Messi and the other Joe Hart.......

Greg you and your squad should be commended for this seasons efforts however, to finish with a minus goal difference speaks volumes. The problem is either with front men or defence. I have attended the vast majority of home games this season and in my view based on this is your defence. So many times this season CUFC have gone ahead and sometimes within minutes they are back on equal terms. The difference between Charlton and Carlisle is significant if talking about finance however based on skill there was very little difference other than the defence leaking a late goal. Perhaps a stronger centre half to support Danny Livesey? Once again well done for your efforts this season

Many people are having a right go at Adam Colin which I think is a tad unfair. Yes he is far from perfect, but if he was perfect he would be in the Premiership! Who would we bring in better than him? look through the Keeper in every team in league 1&2 then think is he better than Adam. If yes then think is there any way we could sign him, would he want to come to Carlise and could we afford him? You do that and you will be left with a very short list if a list at all.
We could dive in to the loan market for a young keeper this worked with Krul but that is a big risk. Keepers get better with age and a 19 Keeper on a season long loan is risky and and again is unlikly to be much better than Adam. All those asking for a new please suggest one!

Have to agree with some of the comments that the back four needs a good deal of work. I'm not surprised that contracts were offered in those positions but I would be very surprised if the positions weren't strengthened. I'd expect another striker to complement Lee Miller too.
But let's not forget the youth players moving up. One of two of them might well stick.

Our club has punched above its weight this season and ask a Preston North End fan what they think and most would say they are embarrassed that they are not above us. If Greg looks at the full Sky TV video of us being beaten at Brentford he will see where the problems are. Adam Collin had a poor game but is not a bad keeper that can not learn and be coached and he will learn as he does care. That is the real strength of this current set up. The manager passionately cares and most of his players do. If you have this you do improve. We do not know how lucky we are to have a football club like we have.Well done all at the club but let's keep learning
