Mum’s the word for Richard Keogh fans

When this engrossing season is through and supporters sift back through for their highlights of 2009/10, chances are that United’s FA Cup jaunt to Everton will feature prominently.

For one group of Blues loyalists, it was not just the events on the pitch that made that January day so memorable.

You may very well be familiar with the group of ardent Richard Keogh fanatics who have been touring stadia across England this season with their giant flag featuring the defender’s mug and the legend; ‘In Keogh We Trust’.

Well, at Goodison Park last month they duly took their seats and began unfurling their famous banner.

At which point, a woman in the next row turned around, clocked the huge, white Keogh face and duly informed them: “That’s my son!”

By happy coincidence, the Keogh fans had come face to face with the Keogh family.

Cheerful banter flowed between both parties throughout United’s brave 3-1 defeat to the Premier League team.

After the game, the boys made a detour to a service station outside Liverpool to fuel up with drinks for the return journey.

And who should also be availing themselves of the same facilities but the Keogh family – and the defender himself.

With typical good cheer, the right-back trotted over and posed, along with his family, for the photo we reproduce today.

The supporters pictured are Barry Fisher, Alan Bell, David Haugh, Marc Shiel, Craig Coulthard, Mark Coulthard and Craig Wood.
