Broughton Red Rose thrash Hensingham

Broughton Red Rose showed they mean business in this season’s Cumberland League top flight, by racking up over half a century of points against Hensingham.

Matthew Jackson and Richard Harrington led the way with two tries each for the village outfit as they pushed their way to a 36-0 lead at the break and a final score of 64-18.

Liam Monaghan, Paul Osbourne, Chris Wright, Richard Campbell, Ryan Scales, Jonathan Ritson and Bryan Park also touched down, with Mark Walker on target with 10 goals.

Hensingham did fight back in the second period with tries from Wayne Laverick, Lewis Salmon and Gavin Maudling, plus two Jamie Sharp goals.

Seaton continued their winning streak with a 28-10 victory at Maryport thanks to a brace from Ryan Blair, plus one apiece from Nathan Kirkbride, Tom Curwen, Richard George and Mark Routledge. Duncan Moyle tagged on two goals.

Maryport got a try in each half, courtesy of Patrick Vaughan and Alan Telford, with one conversion from Stevie Scholey.

Champions Kells ensured they were on the right track with their defence on top form when they hosted Glasson, holding them to a 42-0 scoreline.

Tries from Sean Fitzsimmons, Paul Cullnean, Ben Ferguson and Ashley McDonald, two converted by Tony Burns, gave the Whitehaven side a 20-0 lead at the break.

Then, Kevin Agnew scored nine minutes into the second half to start their rout, with two from Scott Lofthouse and one from Ryan Groggins, three converted by Burns, to seal the win at 42-0.

Wath Brow Hornets also pulled off a very convincing win, beating Lowca 58-6 with Phil Coyles running in a hat-trick of tries, plus two from David Byers.

James Toman, James McClelland, Craig Dixon, Paul Clements, Mally Caton and Richard Huby also touched down with Peter Caddy tagging on four goals and McClelland three.

A Dean Morgan try, converted by Keith Campbell was Lowca’s lone response.

Ellenborough Ranger finally picked up their season, with a 24-14 victory over Distington at Solway Park. Two tries from Kevin Clarke spurred the Maryport side to success, with David Whitworth and David Sewell also touching down. The points were wrapped up with two conversions and a penalty from the boot of Robert Scot and one goal from Shane Ackerly.

Distington broke through the Ellenborough defence twice to touch down, courtesy of Clayton Sutton and Aiden Worthington, with Adam Conway adding three goals.

In division two, a tight clash at Salterbeck Storm saw visitors Cockermouth just edge the game 34-28 after building on a 16-8 lead at the break.

Jamie Skillen and Liam Wild both bagged braces for Cockermouth, with Johnny Goulding and John Beverly following over the whitewash. Gareth Skillen added five goals.

Salterbeck saw tries for Ryan Stoddart, Matthew Gorley, Dan Riddick, David Wilson and Ross Thompson, plus four Liam Wilson goals.

Great Clifton ran in 70 points when they visited Lowca A who could only muster 10 in reply, coming from tries for Lewis Bragg and Mark Johnston, plus one Billy Dalton goal.

Clifton had a hat-trick hero in Tony Huddart with four other players running in braces, in the shape of Nicky Wilson, Nicky Burgess, Sean Woolfe and Martin Wilson. Chris Ritson and Mark French also touched down with Burgess on target with nine goals for a personal tally of 26 points.

Kells A just edged their clash at Frizington 10-6 thanks to tries from Alan McGuinness and Simon Brannon, plus a Lewis Smith goal. Frizington’s lone try came courtesy of Peter Fowler, converted by Wayne Burns.

Flimby also picked up a maximum haul of points when they defeated Maryport A 38-16 with a hat-trick of tries from Ryan Williams and David Torley. They were followed over the whitewash by Ton Eave and Ben Harrison with Gary Hine slotting over two goals and Lewis Crellin one.

Maryport A’s points came from tries for Andrew Cartwright, Ellis Nixon and Keiron McCrickerd, plus two Cartwright goals.

Egremont tasted victory over Seaton A with a 34-18 scoreline, after pulling away in the second half from a 12-12 deadlock at the break. Kevin Graham ran in two tries for Egremont with James McDonald, Hugh Pollen, Mark Reid and Kevin Brown also touching down. McDonald tagged on five goals.

James Mackay, Alex McDonald and Craig Dowling all bagged tries for Seaton A with Craig Fisher converting all three.

Hensingham A beat Salterbeck A 32-10 but there were no scorers received.
