Arroyo one point away from winning Carlisle second division title

Arroyo gained three vital points by beating Warwick Wanderers 4-1 and now only require one more point in their final two games to land the Carlisle Sunday league second division title.

They nearly went ahead in the 25th minute when Andy Thompson’s cross picked out Mark Worrall, whose shot crashed against the bar, while at the other end, just before the break, Robert Slack’s free-kick found Lee Graham, whose header sailed narrowly over the top.

Arroyo took the lead in the 59th minute when Wanderers’ keeper handled outside the area and Aaron Roberts swept in the resulting free-kick through a crowd of players.

Wanderers levelled five minutes later, Graham making no mistake with his header from Will Booth’s corner. Arroyo restored their advantage in the 70th minute, Worrall finishing well after a fine solo run and Martin Hickson bagged a third in the 80th minute with a powerful effort via the upright. Worrall completed the scoring after being set up by Scott McArthur.

Lion & Lamb were unable to raise a side against Third Division champions Moorhouse and forfeited the game.

Premier Division leaders Green Bank returned from Brampton 1-0 victors. The vital goal came five minutes from the end when a Brampton defender headed back wide of the advancing keeper and Mark Temple followed up to slam the ball into the empty net.

Harraby Catholic earned a place in the Nichol Signs League Cup semi-finals by beating Gretna SC 4-1. Mark McKenzie and Guiseppe Amato grabbed two apiece for the winners while Dale Muir replied.

Dan Walker and Andy Rogerson netted for Dalston Old Boys in their Fourth Division 2-1 win against Border Reiver, whose response was Andy Carr’s own goal.
