Carlisle United forward Charlie Wyke has put pen to paper on a two and a half year contract extension which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2018.

Wyke, who joined United from Middlesbrough last January, bagged his ninth goal of the season in Keith Curle's side's 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

And the 23-year-old has now signed a new deal, which Curle revealed had been offered to the player at the weekend.

Wyke - who now has 15 goals from his 37 outings in Carlisle colours - says the new contract will allow him to concentrate on his game, although he is determined to reward manager Curle's faith in him

"I'm loving it here at the minute and I just want it to keep going. I'm delighted to have been offered a new deal because it means I've got no worries now. I can go out and enjoy my football," he said.

"As soon as the gaffer said there was a contract on the table I knew I was going to sign it. It was first mentioned a couple of weeks ago but we weren't allowed to say anything. My agent has been in sorting things out and I'm just really pleased it's all done.

"The gaffer has shown a lot of faith in me so hopefully I can repay that over the next two-and-a-half years by scoring more goals."
