Jimmy Glass will get his shooting boots back on today - to raise money for Cumbria's flood appeal.

The goalscoring Carlisle goalkeeper is to play up front for United's London Branch supporters' club in a special charity game.

Carlisle's capital-based fans are taking on EnglandFans FC at Park View Road, home of Welling United.

The venue has special significance, for it was at Welling where United were playing in the FA Cup on the weekend Storm Desmond struck Carlisle and Cumbria.

The teams will contest the Cumbria Flood Appeal Trophy, which will be presented after the game by Blues legend John Gorman.

Former Gillingham, Fulham and Reading midfielder Neil Smith will turn out for the England fans' side, alongside Mark Hammond who played for Harchester United in Sky TV's Dream Team series.

EnglandFans FC play charity games up and down the country and their manager Garford Beck said: “We are delighted to be involved in such a worthy cause.

"The flooding we witnessed in Cumbria, before Christmas, was horrific and, as football fans, we were particularly saddened by the plight of Carlisle United FC.

"Eighteen out of 20 Premier League football clubs ignored Carlisle United's appeal for help - our two fans' groups just wanted to do our little bit to show that we care.”

London Branch team captain Chris Tembey added: "At the time of the floods back in December 2015, Carlisle United themselves were playing at Park View Road meeting Welling United in the FA Cup second round.

"Since that day Welling United have reached Premier League status in terms of the support and generosity offered.

"They are a credit to football and we are deeply grateful to them.

"EnglandFans FC have shown a passion to support and a level of commitment that is second to none; they are a credit to themselves and the group they represent.

"Together we have joined forces and now look forward to sharing a special afternoon."

Kick-off is 1pm and admission is £4 adults, £2 concessions, £1 children.

Welling have secured a sponsor to cover the costs of hosting the game, meaning all proceeds will go to the Cumbria Community Foundation flood appeal.

A raffle will also be held and tickets can be bought from London Branch information officer Jamie Grubb at information@carlislelondonbranch.org.
