Carlisle United are holding a second round of interviews as they narrow their search for a new academy manager.

The Blues are speaking to potential candidates for the job at the head of the youth department at Brunton Park.

They are seeking a new academy boss after Alan Moore's departure after the end of last season.

Blues manager Keith Curle is involved in the recruitment process and said: "The first line of interviews showed up a couple of good propositions. A few weren't able to come up last week but they have been up this Wednesday.

"A decision will then be made to invite suitable candidates back for a second and final interview.

"We would like someone in place as soon as possible, but we can't afford to make the wrong decision.

"It's not just my decision. From the club's point of view they wanted me to be involved, as someone who shares an insight into the progression I see from young players and that pathway."

None of last season's second-year youth players were offered professional deals at United.

Curle said there would ideally be a development squad at Carlisle that would give young players a better chance of progressing to the first team - but said such a squad was unlikely while the Blues are in League Two.

He added: "No matter what happens, there can't be a pathway for players who in the football department's opinion aren't good enough.

"If we're able to get promotion and are a League One club, [maybe] we can have a development squad that sees players of 18, 19, 20 given that extra year or 18 months to fulfil their potential."

United fans have until next Sunday, June 5, to contact the club with their opinions on the proposed shake-up of the Football League.

The League have suggested a revamp that includes an extra division with new teams, though there are fears this could involve Premier League B teams.

Fans are urged to send their views to media@carlisleunited.co.uk, with the subject on the agenda at the Football League AGM on Friday, June 10.
