The Carlisle United fan who was thrown out of Brunton Park after a tirade against the club's owners has described his treatment as "disgusting".

Mark Thompson also said he is "humbled" by the amount of support he has received from fellow supporters following the incident.

Thompson, 43, from Maryport, was removed by police and security staff about 20 minutes after he had voiced his anger about the running of the club to the Blues board.

United said he was ejected for using too much foul language.

Thompson told the News & Star : "I had been planning to have a rant for some time, but the events of [fan rep] Claire Winder resigning, and the Andy Bell Twitter stuff about Hillsborough really fuelled it on Saturday.

"I brought up all the issues, such as the billionaire. I said was disgusted with the way Claire had been treated, having her integrity questioned. And the Bookies.com advertising hoardings still being there after the Andy Bell incident was completely disrespectful.

"I told [the board] they don't listen to fans, the communication's not there. I said they disgust me.

"I can't deny I used some choice language, but I disagree with how I was treated. I thought it was disgusting and a lot of fans around me got quite irate when they saw I how I was taken out of the ground."

Regarding his removal from the terrace, Thompson said: "A steward underneath the directors' box, when I was having my rant, did come up to me, and I went back to my place in the Paddock with the other fans I stand with.

"Then 20 minutes later I was literally mobbed by stewards. They said can we have a word? I asked if we could just talk there, but they said I would have to come out.

"There was no warning or anything. I felt I was bullied and manhandled, totally inappropriately.

"I was pushed down and my arm was behind my back. I wasn't putting up a fight but I was trying to dispute what was happening. I was screaming, but they wouldn't let go until I got out of the ground.

"I was in a lot of discomfort on Sunday morning and I couldn't rotate my shoulder properly. My friend had to pop my arm back in. I feel it was a witch-hunt. I was made an example of."

Thompson, who says he is considering making a complaint to the club, said he was not arrested after being removed from the ground.

Carlisle said Thompson was ejected after he refused to "tone down" his "aggressive" rant against owners Andrew Jenkins, John Nixon and Steven Pattison.

But the supporter said: "It's a bit hypocritical chucking me out when you think of Mr Jenkins and his radio rant."

That was a reference to the incident last October when BBC Radio Cumbria apologised after the Blues chairman approached their commentary team at Stevenage and swore.

Thompson added: "I apologise to people who may have been offended by my words, but I won't apologise to directors. I stand by my comments on how I felt about the club.

"I've been a fan since 1982 and I've never seen it as bad as this. The likes of Fred Story, John Courtenay, they interacted with the fans, even Michael Knighton did to an extent.

"They've made an example of a fan for having a staunch opinion and giving some home truths which maybe they didn't like.

"I've been so humbled about the support I've had from other fans. I've been quite tearful about it.

"The way things have gone, it's not surprising that people like myself have had to get really irate about it. I'd do the same thing today."

Thompson said he only plans to attend away matches in future and called on the Blues' owners to "sell up".

He added: "The club has been on a downward spiral for a long time now. It's static, and people want to move on."

In response United said Saturday's action was "the last course of action they ever want to take".

Media officer Andy Hall said: "The safety staff would always hope to be able to resolve issues by asking the individuals to calm down in the first instance.

"Part of the problem in this case is that foul and abusive language was used excessively and that cannot be allowed in any area of the stadium.

"Andrew Jenkins has also confirmed that he is willing to meet with and talk to any supporter who has any concern at all face to face."
