Wycombe Wanderers 1 Carlisle United 2: Carlisle came from behind to claim an excellent win at Wycombe thanks to goals from Jamie Proctor and Reggie Lambe.

United suffered an early blow when Adebayo Akinfenwa headed the hosts in front after just two minutes.

But Proctor quickly levelled before Lambe put the Cumbrians in front before half-time.

Manager Keith Curle was sent to the stands after the break, while Akinfenwa hit the post for the Chairboys, but United held on for their third win in four games.

A first win at Adams Park since 1997, it extended the third-placed Blues' gap above the play-offs to five points as results elsewhere benefited Curle's men.

Things had started badly for United as Akinfenwa met an Anthony Stewart cross to glance past Mark Gillespie.

But Carlisle responded quickly and levelled on nine minutes through loan striker Proctor.

He was found in space on the edge of the box by Lambe and drilled low into the bottom left corner for his second Blues goal.

Carlisle were often upset by the decisions of ref Darren Drysdale in the opening stages.

They also had to weather from further Chairboys pressure, with Sam Saunders going close and Joe Jacobson having a shot blocked.

But they then got in front on 33 minutes when a long Gillespie clearance exposed the Wycombe defence and Lambe turned it past keeper Jamal Blackman for his first goal in nearly three months.

Gillespie saved well from Saunders while Drysdale waved away two Wycombe penalty appeals.

Michael Raynes then almost forced a United third with the last effort of the first half, a back-post header from a Nicky Adams free-kick.

After the break Mike Jones had a shot blocked for United before Akinfenwa headed against a post.

Sub Jamie Devitt and Adams almost forced another Carlisle goal as the Blues responded to some Wycombe pressure.

Alex Jakubiak went close for the hosts while in the 84th minute ref Drysdale - by now coming in for criticism by the Wycombe fans over his decision-making - stopped the game in order to speak to the respective managers, who had been arguing in the technical areas.

Curle was duly sent from the dugout as Ainsworth remained in position.

Jakubiak had another late effort while Carlisle survived seven minutes of added time to clinch a valuable three points.
