KEITH Curle says Carlisle United are sifting through applications for the vacant academy manager job at Brunton Park.

The Blues are seeking a new head of their youth department after the departure of Alan Moore.

There is another week for contenders to contact the club but Curle said the process is well under way.

He said: "The closing date is May 6 but we have received a number of applicants.

"Some have been sorted through because of the minimum requirements we have regarding qualifications.

"Nothing will be finalised until after the closing date."

Both Moore and development coach Vince Overson signed confidentiality agreements before they left the club last week, amid suggestions of disagreements with Curle behind the scenes.

That followed the manager's decision to release eight second-year youth players.

Another second-year, understood to be winger Arron Bradbury, is training with the first-team until the end of the season in a bid to earn a professional contract.

Curle said: "He has integrated himself very well.

"Sometimes that can be difficult but there is an openness within the squad now, they are a very welcoming group.

"The players were well aware the young lad was coming in, and they are giving the help, advice and encouragement anybody needs.

"A successful squad is a welcoming squad."
