Carlisle United are asking fans to share their opinions on the Football League's proposed shake-up.

The Blues are giving supporters until Sunday, June 5 to tell them what they think of the radical plans.

United want to know what their fanbase thinks of proposals to introduce a new division and to reduce the number of teams in each league to 20 from the 2019/20 season.

Carlisle also say they want to hear opinions on the controversial possibility of Premier League B teams joining the Football League system.

The Blues used their website yesterday to pose a series of questions designed to gather as many views as possible.

But United say opinions need not be restricted to those particular questions about the 'Whole Game Solution' plan, which was revealed last week.

Carlisle said key questions for fans to consider include:

- Do you agree with the five division (20 teams in each division) concept? If yes, why? If no, why?

- Do you agree with the introduction of a knock-out stage for the League Trophy competition? If yes, why? If no, why?

- Do you think the changes will bring an increase, a decrease or no change to the financial position of member clubs?

- Would you prefer the emphasis to switch to Saturday fixtures, with almost no reliance at all on midweek fixtures?

- Would you have concerns over the final makeup of the four Football League divisions (please consider regionalisation and the potential for Premier League B teams to be introduced in this response)?

- Do you think any of these changes would be of long term benefit to the Football League and, more importantly, to Carlisle United Football Club?

United say fans' views should be sent to media@carlisleunited.co.uk to "help us form an opinion" to take to the League's AGM next month.

A final vote would not take place until next year, but The Football League said their proposals are already supported "in principle" by the Premier League and FA.

They argue the plans will bring financial benefits to clubs and reduce long midweek trips.

Nominations, meanwhile, are set to open to replace Oxford's Ian Lenegan as the League Two representative on the Football League board.

Lenegan is replacing Greg Clarke as Football League chairman.

The League said a letter will go out asking for nominations once the make-up of League Two is known after next Monday's play-off final.

United owner John Nixon was previously a League One representative before Carlisle's relegation from the third tier in 2014.
