Morton midfielder Joe McKee today became Carlisle United's second close-season signing.

The 23-year-old has signed a one-year deal at Brunton Park.

McKee's move to Cumbria was clinched shortly after boss Keith Curle swooped for Northampton winger Nicky Adams.

The former Burnley and Bolton player's arrival has long been expected at United, who have been tracking the midfielder for several months.

McKee revealed last week that he had agreed terms with the Cumbrians.

His deal includes the option of a second year if certain incentives are reached.

Curle said: "Joe is a ball-playing, tenacious midfield player who will cover every blade of grass and has a hunger about him.

"He has been down to England before and you can probably say things didn't go his way at those clubs.

"He left a bit disjointed and disgruntled, needed to play games, which he did in a very competitive league, but had a feeling he underachieved and England didn't see his full potential.

"He's coming here with a point to prove."

United watched McKee several times last season and the Scot also revealed he had been to Brunton Park to watch Carlisle's defeat to Luton in April.

He turned down the chance to stay at Morton in favour of joining the Cumbrians.

"It's a great opportunity that I'm ready to grab with both hands," he said.

"I've seen the way the boys play and been told how the gaffer likes to play.

"It's a big pitch, good surface and it suits me. I'm excited about it.

"I don't have a bad word to say about Morton. I've had a good season there, got on well with everybody and have learned a lot at the club.

"I wish them all the best, but this is something I wanted to do."

United say the deal has been agreed in principle and remains subject to completion of necessary paperwork.
