Carlisle United boss Keith Curle is hot on the trail of MORE signings after completing a dramatic double swoop for Nicky Adams and Joe McKee.

The Blues boss and recruitment chief Lee Dykes are meeting further targets today following yesterday's transfer breakthrough.

Curle is keen to step up his bid to strengthen his squad at Brunton Park after describing winger Adams as a major signing

The 29-year-old left League Two champions Northampton in order to sign a two-year deal with United.

He was quickly followed into the club by Morton midfielder McKee, whose one-year deal has the option to be extended.

And Curle said: "It's job done for the day - but it's ongoing.

"Myself and Lee Dykes are meeting other players and representatives today, and [assistant manager] Colin West is meeting the representative of a potential player in London.

"We have good targets in place. We won't get every single one we want but people are more prepared to talk to us than they were last year."

Adams joined the Blues just weeks after helping the Cobblers win the League Two title.

The former Bury player said the change of manager at Sixfields - Rob Page replacing Sheffield United-bound Chris Wilder - had been among his reasons for leaving the fourth-tier champions.

Page himself said Adams had expressed a wish to move further north to be closer to his family.

The winger had been under contract at Northampton but Curle said an agreement was struck without a transfer fee.

"There was good communication between ourselves and Northampton at the upper level," Curle said.

"My conversation was football, and me selling a vision. We've brought a very, very good player to the club."

Curle said United originally tried to sign Adams in January at a time when Northampton were in a financial crisis.

Their bid then was unsuccessful as the Cobblers were taken over and Adams remained a key player in their stunning season.

Curle was also delighted to land the "ball-playing" McKee after tracking the 23-year-old Scot for several weeks.

McKee turned down a new deal at Morton and Curle said the midfielder "has a point to prove" at United after failing to make the grade at his previous English clubs Bolton and Burnley.

Curle added: "They are going to add to what we've got and continue the competitive edge we're trying to bring.

"Nicky Adams can play in a variety of positions - he can play left, right, in the middle, a narrow midfield player, can stretch teams and play wide, and can go past people.

"If we can continue his delivery, assists and goal record, he's going to add a goal threat to us and make us a team to be monitored.

"A lot of work has gone into both signings and also the others we are trying to make happen."

Both deals have been agreed in principle and remain subject to the completion of paperwork.
