Keith Curle admits he has still to sign his new Carlisle United contract – 76 days after “agreeing” it.

The saga over the Blues manager’s new deal remains unresolved with negotiations continuing between boss and club.

This is despite United having announced on November 24 last year that Curle had agreed an extension to 2018 at Brunton Park.

Asked by the News & Star about the situation, Curle said: “You’ve got two parties that want to make sure that everything’s right, which is proper and correct.

“I’ve got my values, principles and wishes, and also the club has.

“I’m fully aware the chairman [Andrew Jenkins] and John Nixon have got to protect the football club and make sure that, in their eyes, they’ve got the right person in charge.

“Likewise I’ve got to make sure that I get the deal and I’m at the football club that I think I can take in the same direction as they want to go.

“The finer points of it do need to be catered for. I do take it on board from both sides that things have to be right.”

Curle would not elaborate on the exact areas that had yet to be resolved.

Chairman Jenkins, meanwhile, has described Carlisle’s recent income as “much-needed” and insisted it would not be “wasted”.

United have banked six-figure takings from their cup runs this season, along with the summer departures of Brad Potts and Kyle Dempsey.

In Saturday’s programme Jenkins wrote: “The money all these things has created is much-needed and we must be careful not to waste it by giving it to clubs and players as we attempt to improve the squad.”

Jenkins also hinted that the ‘fan zone’ marquee used at the Everton game could be used again by the club.

Gary Dicker made his Kilmarnock debut in their 0-0 draw at Rangers in the Scottish Cup.

United’s youth team lost 2-1 at Fleetwood.
