Clocking on this Christmas Day

Nobody likes to think they’ll need to call on the help of our hospitals this Christmas Day. But for those who will, lead paediatric nurse and special care baby unit clinical nurse, Sue Whyte-Earl will be on hand to ensure Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary runs smoothly. With more than 120 animals and birds relying on her, Elizabeth McDonagh will be up with the larks this Christmas Day. The 52-year-old former veterinary nurse single-handedly runs the Penny Jones Animal Hospice at Hethersgill. Think of hospital staff and you picture the doctors and nurses. But domestic supervisor at the Cumberland Infirmary, 57-year-old Lorraine Todd, will be hard at work ensuring the hospital is kept vitally clean.
