Lee’s the hot shot for Gillford

Gillford Park 2 Ashington 1: Lee Otway snatched the winner for Park – after setting up the opener for strike partner Graham Goulding.

Ashington’s consolation came from Mark Pattie whose downward header ended up in the net beyond Gavin Armstrong in the Gillford goal.

Otway struck after a three-man move. The hitman made space with a clever shimmy and slid the ball into the bottom right of the goal.

Defences staying solid afteer the break and a great stop by Armstrong foiled Stephen Hutchison

Gillford Park: Armstrong, Allen, Palmer, Thompson, Taylor, Butler, Short, Skinner, Otway, Goulding & Addison. Subs: Twentyman, Nocter and McMurdo.

Harraby CC 4 Shankhouse 1

Harraby forced three corners in succession from the kick-off and their early pressure told after just five minutes when Marc Shiel and Steve Archibald combined to release Rob Bainbridge whose shot across Shankhouse keeper Bruce from 18-yards went in off the inside of the post.

The lead was increased in the 25th minute when James Earl’s pinpoint free kick from the right saw James Parker rise high to power a header into the far top corner from close range.

Shankhouse found a way back into the game within two minutes when a blocked shot resulted in a penalty for hands for the visitors, but Craig Johnston's spot kick hit Andy Casson’s right-hand post and was cleared by the home defence.

That miss was further punished in the 31st minute when Archibald’s speculative drive from fully 30-yards took a slight deflection off a defender to fly into the top corner of the net with the keeper helpless. Shankhouse replied immediately when Johnston surprised the home defence by hitting a vicious angled drive from near the by-line past Casson.

Harraby wrapped up the when Shiel cut in from the left to place his 18-yard shot into the far corner past the static visiting keeper Bruce and keep his side firmly in second place above neighbours Gillford Park.
