WORKINGTON Comets start another busy period of racing this weekend which will see them tackle four meetings in eight days.
Reigning Premier League champions Rye House provide the opposition, home and away tonight (7pm) and on Monday afternoon.
Then it’s Workington’s first visit to League new boys Scunthorpe on Friday followed by a visit from Reading Racers next Saturday.
Team manager Ian Thomas says: “There are times like this when the fixtures come thick and fast and it can be a testing time for man and machinery.
“On a personal note I’m looking forward to the two meetings with the Rockets. They won the League last season and as they are reigning champions you always like to test yourself against the best.
“Len Silver is one of the shrewdest guys in the business, as his record proves and he is one of the sport’s top promoters.
“I thought it was great when I asked whether I could use Barry Burchatt against them even though he is their rider. Len didn’t have a problem and said he didn’t want to stop the lad from earning money.
“That’s the way it should be and I have always tried to have the same attitude if its one of my own riders who is involved.
“He even agreed to Barry riding even though he has a few injury problems in his side.”
Luke Bowen is continuing to undergo physiotherapy on his shoulder ligament and muscle injury, and should be back in action in approximately two weeks.
Tommy Allen, meanwhile, has been for a knee scan, but Rye House are still awaiting the results while Danny Betson has suffered a hairline fracture of his left elbow, but has set himself a target of riding again within a fortnight.
At Derwent Park tonight the Rockets will use Glasgow newcomer Josh Grajczonek as a guest for Bowen with rider-replacement operating for Allen.
Danny Halsey will fill the reserve berth for the absent Betson. They have not announced a side for Monday.
Burchett will be travelling-up early for a look at the Derwent Park track as he starts his come-back in the sport.
