HERE are a couple of conflicting replies to our plea about the band leader in Come Dancing.

Liz Balmer from Broome Court, Carlisle told us: “I’ve been dancing since I was four years old and used to go to classes run by Florence Wilkinson in Carlisle who was an excellent teacher.

“It was definitely Joe Loss’s band who played in Come Dancing. Victor Silvester had his own Ballroom Club programme and this was alternated on TV with Come Dancing.”

Jason Black e-mailed us to say: “When I used to watch Come Dancing on the old black and white telly – and the picture wasn't rolling either up and down or sideways – I seem to remember that it was Victor Silvester who was the band conductor.”
