MILLOM STEP UP TO THE PLATE FINAL

MILLOM reached their second final of the season when they beat Whitehaven 23-12 at the Playground last night.

They will take on Netherhall in the final of the Cumbria Plate after the Maryport side were awarded their semi-final. Opponents Creighton were unable to put-out a front row.

Millom will contest their first final on Saturday when they play at Upper Eden in the final of the Furness and Westmorland County Challenge Cup.

The match at Whitehaven had to go into extra-time after the sides had finished locked together at 12-12.

But it was Millom who came strongest in the extra-time period, scoring a drop goal, unconverted try and penalty to put themselves clear.

Millom had been delayed by an accident at Moor Row, so the game started late but the south Cumbrians were quickest out of the blocks and scored a try after only five minutes which was converted.

Stephen McConnell reduced the arrears with a penalty but Millom increased their lead before the break with an unconverted try.

Whitehaven improved in the second-half when there were some outstanding runs from deep by their man of the match, full-back Luke Scott. But they couldn’t cross the Millom line as the visitors defended superbly.

The home side did manage to get themselves level but it came via the boot of McConnell with three more penalties. In extra-time Millom looked the stronger and to finish with a 3-0 try advantage over their hosts emphasised how they deserved to win the tie.

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?

Yes, it's never too early to start thinking about it

No, but maybe I should to spread the cost. It's going to be a tough one this year

Don't be silly... but seeing as you're asking, I'd like Guitar Hero and a Chocolate Orange
