VICTORIOUS Cumbria coach Gary Charlton will push his young charges for international honours after they captured the BARLA county championship against Lancashire on Sunday.
The former Workington Town and Whitehaven pro believes there is massive potential in the senior squad and the Under-19s, who beat their Lancashire counterparts to ensure a proud county double, with international honours the next step.
“We’ll be pushing as many as we can because a lot of these lads have ability,” said Charlton, who is also the GB Under-21 coach.
“The 19s have some big, raw-boned lads, and if they have the commitment and endeavour, they will go on to be better rugby league players.”
The senior side, coached by Charlton and Martin Oglanby, beat Lancashire 22-20, with Maryport loose-forward Mark Foster named man-of-the-match.
“He ran on to the ball well and bust the line a few times,” Charlton added. “I was really happy with the commitment shown by the boys. Everyone stood up to be counted.”
