BASS Militia drum’n’bass night marches into Carlisle tonight, commanded by Lambhuna-founder General Irritant, aka Douglas Chippendale.
Headlining the night at The Brickyard is the innovative London collective Jerona Fruits, playing ‘back to back liquid soulful drum’n’bass with a hard edge’.
Support comes from General Irritant (house, techno, hardcore and reggae-influenced drum’n’bass), Sam P (‘150+bpm madness with fat driving bass lines and jungle breaks and drops’) and Lambhuna in the chill out room.
Sponsored by Circle Bar and S4 skate shop (on Lonsdale Street), Bass Militia aims to fill a gap in Carlisle’s dance music scene by bringing top flight drum’n’bass DJs to the great border city, playing a ‘soulful’ mix of reggae, dub, funk and drum’n’bass, along with some harder bpms and heavy baselines.
Doug Chippendale, also a regular DJ at The Brickyard’s Revolt night, says Bass Militia will “get part of the city booming by bringing in top DJs from a music scene not currently readily available to people in Carlisle.”
He adds: “I feel we miss the music culture that other cities have. Bass Militia is for real music lovers of all ages and is a healthier option than going up Botchergate to listen to the same generic music from the charts that you hear week in week out.”
Bass Militia already has Logistics (Hospital Records) and Newcastle’s Codename Tyrone and Nis lined up for the May 17 event.
“These are set to be great nights for Carlisle’s rising drum’n’bass scene which will be booming by 2009. People should expect a friendly bouncing atmosphere with nice people, there for the same reason – to dance the night away care free.”
Tickets £5. Doors 9.30pm until late.
