Half-back partners Sol Roper and Harry Archer, Bert Eden, John O’Neill, Benny Eve and Eric Stephenson were invited to the Challenge Cup clash with Hull KR, to commemorate Town’s cup final of half a century ago.

Workington went down to a 13-9 defeat against Wigan, at Wembley.

Town chairman Dave Bowden said: “They have 67 years of experience with the club behind them, and are all amazing stalwarts.

“We loved having them there. They are still remembered as part of a great team and a great era, and they certainly enjoyed themselves.

“They don’t get together as much as they like, so the they had a great laugh. Like all great players, they are modest men.”
