A classic tool, now improved

SOMETIMES, the old ways really are the best ways and elbow grease is better than some electric thingy. Like using a pestle and mortar to grind up herbs and spices.

Lakeland have launched a new-look version of the ancient kitchen gadget. They have designed a pestle with a star-shaped groove to catch ingredients and make the pounding and grinding easier.

The pestle has an easy-grip rubber end and fits the mortar so snugly that you can roll it in the palm of your hand.

Available from the Lakeland store in Windermere, it costs £9.99. For more information, go to www.lakeland.co.uk
