THE weather is horrendous, the Christmas credit card bills are landing on the doorstep . . . and you’ve probably already broken your New Year’s resolution.
Cheer up! Things could be worse – you could be one of those Liverpool fans, who must be sinking further into depression as they see the bitter in-fighting engulfing Anfield.
Liverpool has always been a proud club which has conducted itself with great dignity.
Boardroom power struggles, back-stabbing of managers and an unhappy dressing room have always been more associated with Newcastle United orSpurs.
Not airing their dirty washing on the back pages of the tabloids gave Liverpool an air of respectability and decency.
Those qualities were the bedrock of successful teams of the seventies and eighties.
Now they’re turning into a laughing stock, with manager Rafael Benitez being constantly undermined, their American owners ready to sell up less than a year after their takeover and star players conceding defeat in the title race.
Great men like Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley must be spinning in their graves.
