Still no dead certs yet as Leeds chase their points

THE word from the Brunton Park dressing room is that Chris Lumsdon was celebrating more than three points after last Saturday’s nailbiter against Yeovil.
The midfielder, it turns out, had drawn Comply Or Die from the players’ Grand National sweepstake.
In our wilder imaginings, we can hear Ken Bates’ lawyers repeating the name of Lumsdon’s successful beast in the direction of the members of next week’s tribunal panel, when they go in pursuit of Leeds’ 15 docked points.
Their generally unpopular pursuit, I might add. Outrage from many of their League One rivals is currently heaving against the dam. If anyone out there thinks the return of those points to the Yorkshire club will end the legal disputes over this ugly matter, they’re probably off with the fairies.
So we watch with nervous interest and, in the meantime, look for omens anywhere they can be found. Carlisle fans may rejoice at the identity of the second-placed animal in last weekend’s big race: King John’s Castle.
Our own King John, if Mr Ward will excuse the reference, would happily take a runners-up spot of his own these coming weeks.
