4,700 set for charity run

Carlisle's women-only Race For Life is expected to attract 4,700 charity runners this summer.

Organisers of Race For Life say they are on track to raise more than £263,000 for Cancer Research.

Local women are still being asked to show support and sign up to take part in the 5km event which will be held at the Sheepmount Stadium on Sunday, July 13.

Carlisle event manager Nelson Laurencia said: “Some women might assume Race for Life is about running, but it’s all about women coming together to raise money to beat cancer. Who comes first is unimportant and the vast majority of participants choose to walk – often chatting with friends for the hour or so it takes to stroll round the 5k course.

Carlisle participants will be part of an annual women-only fundraiser, which will see 750,000 UK women raise £50 million to help beat cancer.
