I WONDER if Audrey, George and Lyn knew Dorothy Burgon (nee Wilson) of Carlisle.
Dorothy has been a film fan since the age of nine.
“I used to go to the cinema every week” she told Timeline.
“When I was young, I went with either mum and dad or my sister.
“My favourite cinema was always the City. It was so elegant.
“There was always two films showing. An A and a B.
“Even when we were in our teens and went with boyfriends, if the man came out and said there were two singles available, my sister and I grabbed the chance and told the fellas we’d see them inside!
“I can remember once going out with a chap called Johnny.
“At the time there were two films on the go, one called To Dorothy A Son and the other Johnny on the Run which caused quite a laugh among my friends.
“I can remember everything about the City, and I too remember the lady on the kiosk.
“We knew her as ‘Little Amy’. She wore a long green velvet gown and was well known in the town.
