Cash for drop-in centre

A DRUG and alcohol drop-in centre run by the Rising Sun Trust and the development of a young people’s centre are just two proposals, supported by the Maryport Neighbourhood Partnership.

Manager Lynne Thomas said the partnership has given £15,000 towards developing a young people’s centre in Maryport Town Centre, working with Maryport Community Church and Young Cumbria.

A further £13,000 has gone to the Rising Sun Trust which is looking at putting a drug and alcohol drop-in centre in Ewanrigg.

The partnership has given £5,000 to the police to help in combating anti-social behaviour.

Flimby community association and Netherhall Community Sports Centre also received £5,000 for their condition management programmes.

These are programmes, run with assistance from JobCentre Plus, which aim to help people off incapacity benefit back to work.

Additional smoking cessation services will be provided through a £3,705 donation to Maryport Health Services, and Fit 4 Life received £3,155 for its condition management programme.

Netherhall School’s Young Enterprise team was given £2,000 towards the cost of a trip to London for the national finals of the Young Enterprise competitions.
