Lottery may make play park a reality

CHILDREN from Workington’s Moss Bay have designed a new play area which they hope will be built early next year.

The Next Generation Group, made up of Moss Bay residents, needs to raise £120,000 to make the plans become reality.

The group has already got £70,000 but has applied for £50,000 from the National Lottery, and will find out later this month if it was successful.

Alyson Hodgson, group chairwoman, said: “We have nothing for the kids in our area, and the plans to build a play area has really brought everyone together.”

Children identified a vacant spot of land on Cusack Crescent as the ideal place for a play park.

Alyson, 44, said: “The area of land right now is just used as a dumping area. It could be something special for us.

“This area is not just for the children, it is for the whole of Moss Bay.

“There will also be an allotment area for elderly people to get involved, and the children will be helping with the planting.”

If the funding is approved, Alyson hopes work will begin early next year.

Is Ofsted right to crack down on boring teaching?

Yes, young minds need to be stimulated to encourage a love of learning.

No, I had to put up with lessons that make you go to sleep - so kids these days should too.

Haven't they got more important things to do?
