Canoe challenge raises charity cash

A WORKINGTON man has completed a three-lakes canoe challenge to raise £1,000 for Whitehaven’s West Cumberland Hospital.

Lee Hardon, 38, of Clifton Court, and friends Alison Kitchen, 42, Robert Jobson, 40, and Gary Beatson, 25, raised the cash for the children’s ward.

The group decided to raise the money as a thank you after some of their children and relatives’ children were treated at the hospital.

The friends, who work as health physics surveyors for Nuvia at Sellafield, had never been in a canoe before but took part in the sponsored challenge on Ullswater, Coniston and Windermere.

The canoes were supplied by Distant Horizons outdoor adventure activity group from Leeming Farm, Penrith.

Is Ofsted right to crack down on boring teaching?

Yes, young minds need to be stimulated to encourage a love of learning.

No, I had to put up with lessons that make you go to sleep - so kids these days should too.

Haven't they got more important things to do?
