Halloween for charity

CALLUM Harker has been knocking on doors as regularly as his trick or treating peers, but for a good cause rather than himself.
The 16-year-old from Oughterside is ignoring the Halloween tradition of asking for goodies for himself and is raising money for Children in Need.
After a day of collecting in Whitehaven and a couple of days in Maryport, Callum had already raised £220 by Wednesday and was hoping for a lot more before he returned to school at Keswick on Monday.
Proud grandmother Mary Jackson, of Church Street, Maryport, said: “Young people get such a bad reputation now but this shows the other side.”
Callum, who will not be trick or treating this year, said he watches Children in Need every year.
He said: “You see where the money goes and what life is like for some children. I decided I just wanted to do something for the community and for these children.”
He was helped in Maryport by his six-year-old cousin Lucas Altinay.
