Collin may become target of Football League clubs

WORKINGTON Reds keeper Adam Collin will be a target of Football League clubs if he continues his impressive start to the season, says Reds boss Darren Edmondson.
Collin has hugely impressed Edmondson, who believes the young keeper – who has previously had a trial with Hereford United and has trained with Carlisle United – has the ability to step up the league ladder.
“Adam’s probably been our most impressive player,” said the manager, who is delighted that Collin has heeded advice over how to improve his game.
Edmondson said: “It’s only a matter of time before people look at him.
“When he went to Hereford, they wanted to sign him, but didn’t have a reserve team. He would have been going there as second choice and not playing, which wouldn’t have been ideal if he had been going all that way.
“A lot at Carlisle also spoke highly of him when he went there for a week, but the manager at the time, Paul Simpson, had other ideas.”
The ex-Newcastle United youngster also caught the eye in the 3-1 pre-season win over Carlisle.
He is the only senior keeper on Reds’ books at present, but Edmondson has a couple waiting in the wings if his No 1 picks up a serious knock.
Reds have taken only two points from their opening three league matches, but Edmondson is pleased that fans are being patient with his team.
“They have to keep believing in the lads,” he said.
“They realise we are trying to play football the right way. We need to win matches, but the boys have played well, and possibly haven’t had the points they deserve.”
Meanwhile, defender Kyle May has been given a three-match ban following his straight red card in the 2-2 draw against Stafford Rangers on Saturday, which is effective from next weekend.
Workington reserves will play their first home game of the season tonight (Friday) against Fleetwood Town.
Manager Herbert Briggs said: “Fleetwood are the team we pipped for the title last year but, as we know, we have a completely different side this season.
“I handed out 13 debuts last week in the 8-0 defeat at Burscough but for the visit of Fleetwood I will have Craig Johnston junior, Stuart Pettit, Dan Gullen, Mathew Blake, Dan McDermott, Liam Jackson and Mathew Mahoney all in contention for a place.
“All seven missed the Burscough game but Greg Mitchell, Brian Rutherford and Ryan Moody are all unavailable for Friday night.”
The kick-off at Borough Park will be at 8pm.
