Graham Young, the league’s vice chairman and referees appointments officer, is to be the acting chairman while press officer Herbert Briggs has stepped up to be acting vice-chairman.

Briggs said: “We’d just like to thank Colin for his efforts over the last three years as league chairman and wish him all the best for the future.”

Ironically as Doorbar, a former Workington Reds chairman, leaves his role with the league another ex-Reds chairman has been brought in.

Dale Brotherton, whose own firm Lime House Estates used to sponsor the league, is to be the league’s fixture secretary as he takes over from Briggs who will now concentrate on the press side of things.

In another change Lisa Wright has been appointed minutes secretary to replace Helen Taylor who stood down towards the end of last season.

The league has also agreed to make a donation of £250 to Workington Reds for their help in providing their facilities at Borough Park for major league finals and representative games last season.

The new season will start on August 9 with a full programme of matches but the first competitive game will be played on August 6.

League champions Netherhall take on Aspatria, the Whitehaven Cup winners, in the annual Charity Shield game which is sponsored by Combined Insurance of America.

CFM and Crest Team Wear are no longer sponsors of the league but local company's Cumbria Vehicles Rental's and J Edgar and Son have stepped in to sponsor the Whitehaven Cup and Conway Cup respectivly.

Salterbeck warmed up for the start of the new seaons with a victory over Bransty Rangers. Andrew Rowntree hit five, Barry Hodgson two and there was one each from Lee McCullouch and debutent Mick Sewell.

The opening League games on August 9 are - Premier division: Aspatria v Cleator Moor Celtic, Cockermouth v Frizington White Star, Longtown v Mirehouse, Netherhall v Salterbeck, Silloth v Whitehaven Miners.

Division one: Bransty Rangers v Carlisle City, Hearts of Liddlesdale v Wigton Athletic, Parton Utd v St Margaret Mary's, St Bees v Whitehaven.

The league has a new web site, www.cumberlandcountyleague.co.uk
