Reds sign ex-Gretna teenager

WORKINGTON Reds have signed former Gretna teenager Dan Robinson.

The Penrith-born 19-year-old, who can play up front or right-midfield, is boss Darren Edmondson’s first close-season signing.

Robinson featured in Gretna’s first-team squad and made it on to the bench for several of last season’s Scottish Premier League games without making an appearance.

Meanwhile, Edmondson has wished Reds’ reserve team boss Stuart Rome well after he resigned to become manager at Gretna.

Edmondson said: He’s from Gretna and I’m chuffed for him.”

Under Rome last season, Reds Reserves won the Lancashire League title and reached the Lancashire League Cup final.

And Reds chairman Humphrey Dobie has backed the Conference plan to scrutinise expenditure of all their 68 member clubs.

In future clubs will have to provide quarterly reports of expenditure including detailed information on payments to the taxman.

The scrutiny is being introduced in an attempt to rein in clubs after Halifax, Boston and Nuneaton lost their Conference places because of financial problems.
