ELLENBOROUGH prop Paul West has been named the Cumberland ARL player of the year.
West also collected a hat-trick of awards at the club’s presentation evening.
He was named Ellenborough’s players’ player, most consistent, and landed the president’s trophy for club achiever.
Club chairman Wilson Smith said: “It’s a great achievement for the lad. A lot of it is down to his dedication and fitness. He’s fit, enthusiastic and a very good club-man.”
Skipper Eddie Robinson was named referees’ player and overall club player-of-the-year, in a fantastic season for the Maryport outfit, in which they claimed three trophies.
Ellenborough have had a fantastic season which included winning the Cumberland league and competing in the Champion of Champions final.
Shane Ackerley was named top young player, David Sewell was most improved and Kyle Lofthouse the supporters’ player-of-the-year.
Craig Holdsworth was coaches’ player and took the accolade for most appearances. Club-man-of-the-year was Wayne Miller.
Marksman Stephen Stoddart was the Cumberland league’s top goal-scorer for the second successive season and was Ellenborough’s top kicker with 133 points. He also notched most points with 321, which included 12 tries.
Ex-Workington Town pro David Whitworth was top try-scorer with 26 touch downs in 26 appearances.
Smith, chairman for the past decade, and club physio Jeff Kirkbride, were made life members of the club.
Special guest at the awards night was ex-Leeds Rhinos and Samoa star Willie Poching, who took along Haven pals David Fatialofa and Leroy Joe.
