Plaza declares its movie independence

THE Plaza cinema’s new Independent’s Day programme started this week.
Next week’s screening is of Martin Scorsese’s Rolling Stones documentary Shine A Light, mixing archive interviews with concert footage from the New York's Beacon Theatre, on June 11.
The other films in the series are: he digitally re-mastered The Great Escape – June 18; Barcelona-set zombie flick [REC] – July 2; The Air I Breathe, starring Forest Whitaker, Brendan Fraser and Sarah Michelle Gellar – July 9; Quentin Tarantino’s homage to Seventies B-movies, Grindhouse – July 16; (hot on the heels of biopic Control) documentary Joy Division – July 23; The Apartment, starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine – July 30; violent thriller Funny Games – August 6; Persepolis (winner of the Jury Prize at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and nominee for Best Animated Feature at the 2008 Oscars) -August 13; classic eestern The Good, the Bad and the Ugly – August 20; Flight of the Red Balloon, starring Oscar winner Juliette Binoche – August 27.
