City’s Fringe benefits

DON’T Mention The Floods comedy club, at The Brickyard, Carlisle, tomorrow night, has two national headliners and Edinburgh Festival favourites, supported by three strong up-and-coming acts.

Played with subtlety and satirical brilliance: Nige, one of Keith Carter’s creations

First up is Nige, a Liverpool scally, played with subtlety, conviction and satirical brilliance by writer, actor and comedian Keith Carter.

Pat Monahan is a quick witted and incredibly fun Geordie/Irish/Iranian comic who headlined one of last year’s DMTF nights, but is compering this one.

Expect plenty of good-natured banter and tomfoolery. Pat’s hilarious headline set last year was entirely improvised.

Supporting is Liverpool comedian of the year Paul Smith, Paramount sketch star Nathan Caton, and political satirist Tony Simpson.

Tickets £7/£5 NUS. Doors 8pm for 9pm.

American comics Carey Marx and Reginald D Hunter play Don’t Mention The Floods (warming up for their Edinburgh Festival Fringe gigs) on Tuesday, July 22 – in a change to the club’s usual night, but still at The Brickyard.
