Lucy Jane Armstrong, 34, is an office manager for an investment management company, originally from Kirklinton, and David John Falconer, 45, is an operations manager for a reinsurance company. They live in Kent.
HOW THEY MET: At work in the London Underwriting Centre in 1997, but they did not start seeing each other until 2005.
PROPOSAL: David proposed on Christmas Day 2006 underneath the copper beech tree at Skitby House, where Lucy was brought up.
VENUE: Kirklinton Church on October 20, 2007.
THEME: Cream and chocolate brown.
BRIDE’S OUTFIT: A Phil Collins champagne-coloured, strapless, taffeta dress decorated with lace and crystal; a veil encrusted with crystals; and a gold tiara supplied by Bridal Elegance, of Penrith.
GROOMSMEN: Richard Palmer was best man. The bride’s brother Bruce Armstrong and Tony Gash were ushers. The groom wore full Highland dress in Blackwatch tartan. The groomsmen wore tail suits supplied by Greenwoods, of Carlisle.
BRIDESMAIDS: Vicky Johnston, 28, was chief bridesmaid. Anja Cantillon, 30, Lauren Taylor, 25, the groom’s nieces Rebecca Cotton, 14, and Rachel Cotton, 12, were bridesmaids. They wore mallard green dresses from Lancashire Bridal Gallery.
FLOWERS: A teardrop bouquet with cream roses, stephanotis and ivy, while the bridesmaids had hand-tied bouquets of roses. All supplied by Christina Forrester or Flower Time. Church and reception flowers were arranged by family friends Marjorie Edmondson, Cindy Diamond and Margaret Moscrop, and the groom’s mother Dorothy Falconer.
TRANSPORT: Vintage-style Rolls Royce supplied by Silver Lady Weddings Cars, of Longtown.
RECEPTION: Champagne reception at Auchen Castle near Moffat for 120 guests. It included a display of falconry, during which an eagle owl delivered a Tiffany diamond and sapphire pendant to the bride from the groom.
TABLE SETTINGS: Cream lilies with bear grass and pearls. The menus were decorated with corsages of cream roses and white heather tied with chocolate brown ribbon made by the bride’s mum.
FAVOURS: A donation to Cancer Research, who provided a pin badge for each guest.
CAKE: A three-tier fruit cake made by the bride’s mum Pat Armstrong and decorated with cream roses and chocolate brown ribbon by Marjorie Corrie, of Hethersgill.
FIRST DANCE: Love Is A Battlefield by Pat Benatar.
ENTERTAINMENT: Disco and DJ Mike Deans, a family friend.
HONEYMOON: India and the Maldives.
