Five players missing as Elbra bid for treble against Seaton

ELLENBOROUGH will be without five front-line players when they face Seaton on Saturday bidding to complete a superb amateur RL treble.

The Maryport outfit beat Kells over Christmas to lift the Cumbria Cup, and also pipped Peter Smith’s men to the Division One title.

They will be without former professionals David Whitworth, Jason Moore, Paul Gorge, Stephen Stoddart and Barrie Murdock when they go for the three-timer against Seaton in the E Lamb & Son Amateur Cup final.

And after Seaton denied Ellenborough a place in the SJR Builders Cumberland Cup final last weekend, winning a try-less match 5-2, the champs know they are not in for an easy ride.

“We were parked on their line for most of the second-half and couldn’t get over it,” said Ellenborough chairman Wilson Smith.

“All credit to Seaton for their defence. If we had taken our chances we could have won, but maybe we rushed things, though the score was only 4-2 until the last minute of the game.

“I don’t think we’ll have a different approach on Saturday. The lads will be gutted about losing and determined to put the record straight.”

The match kicks off at 3pm at Maryport ARLFC.

Ellenborough host a post-match race night on Saturday from 6.30pm in aid of top players Eddie Robinson and Kyle Lofthouse, who have been named in the county squad to tour Australia this summer.

“Everyone is most welcome, as it’s costing the lads around £1,500 apiece for the trip, and they need all the support they can get,” Smith said.
