Injury keeps flying Swede out of Racers clash

DANIEL Nermark won’t be back for Workington Comets tonight when they host Reading Racers at Derwent Park.
The flying Swede has been advised to sit-out the rest of his commitments this weekend and give time for his damaged thumb to heal.
Nermark suffered the injury at Rye House on Monday, and although he did ride in Sweden on Tuesday and Thursday he has been in a fair bit of discomfort.
Comets team manager Ian Thomas said: “He’s been in a lot of pain and has been advised not to ride this weekend. He was due to be at Derwent Park and then jet out to Poland for a meeting on Sunday.
“He won’t be doing either meeting but is going to take it easy, have some physio and hopefully will be back in the saddle some time next week.”
It means tonight’s eagerly-awaited clash between the Premier League’s two top riders – Nermark and Reading’s Ulrich Ostergaard – won’t take place tonight.
Workington, however, will again use their former favourite James Wright, who guested at Scunthorpe last night and scored 12 points in a 47-43 defeat.
It was Workington’s first visit to Scunthorpe and they weren’t able to get back into the contest after a first race 5-1 to the Scorpions and were never nearer than four points in arrears.
Wright is riding in the Elite League this season for Swindon Robins and the Comets are entitled to a guest through losing their number one rider.
Reading, who were in the Elite League themselves last year, started a northern tour at Edinburgh last night and were beaten 49-43 by the in-form Monarchs. Their top men were Ostergaard (13) and the experienced Mark Lemon (12).
