Fans make the Wright choice

WORKINGTON Reds hotshot Jonny Wright proved the fans’ favourite at the club’s annual awards last night – in his first full year at Borough Park.

The ex-Whitehaven Amateurs striker scooped the supporters’ club player-of-the-year honour, with keeper Adam Collin taking the national supporters’ club award and Tony Hopper named players’ player.

Promising young left-back Ross Johnston was the reserves’ player-of-the-year and long-time fundraiser Derek Coyle took the clubman accolade.

Director Alec Graham said: “Over the last few seasons we’ve seen one player clean up at the awards.

“Kyle May just about did it last year, but this year there’s a much wider spread. Jonny Wright deserved his award. He worked extremely hard and to go from Whitehaven Amateurs to Conference North and be our leading goal-scorer is excellent.

“Tony Hopper is valued by the other players and had a superb season. Kyle May also featured very heavily again in the voting.

“Your back-line needs to be strong to keep out some pretty decent forwards in our division, and Adam Collin is one of the best keepers in it. He did well again this year.”

The national supporters’ club was formed in 1981 by Reading-based Workington fan Peter Winkworth and now has around 60 members, as far afield as Australia and the United States, as well as Portsmouth and East Anglia.

Is it a miracle or a crime against nature that a man has given birth to a baby?

Miracle - any new life should be welcomed into the world

Crime against nature - the child will always be labelled a freak

It's not really anyone else's business
