Classic café fayre

CLASSIC British and World dishes are on a new evening menu at the 4 Corners café in Carlisle.

The café is now open on Friday and Saturday evenings offering restaurant food at café prices.

The business is run by Kate Budniak and her partner Andrew Hewetson. Kate said: “We wanted to get the café up and running before opening in the evening. Our menu is based on British and world classics.”

A pupil of the Carlisle Catering College, Andrew has worked at the Michelin-starred Northcote Manor in Lancashire, and Essen, among other places in Carlisle.

His classical background is reflected in dishes such as Eggs Florentine (£3.25), rib-eye Steak Diane (£14.45) and cod with spinach Lyonnaise potatoes (£7.95). And fish pakora salad (£4.50), and haggis on apple mash (£3.95) show his interest in world food and adding a modern twist to the traditional.

Evening meals are served between 6pm and 9pm and the couple plan to introduce a set-price three course menu with a regularly-changing specials board.

The couple opened the café in Earl’s Lane, by the Carlisle bus station, in October.

The couple also provide outside catering and the cafe is also available for private functions.
