Reds refer Blue Star compo claim to FA

Workington Reds have run out of patience with Newcastle Blue Star over the £10,000 compensation they say is owed for losing ex-boss Tommy Cassidy and have handed the matter to the FA.
Cassidy left Borough Park for Newcastle Blue Star in September and Reds later received an initial payment of £10,000 – two months late, according to director Alec Graham.
But a second payment for the same sum has not arrived from Blue Star, despite prompting by Reds, and the ex-Northern Ireland international has now left Kingston Park.
Graham said Reds felt aggrieved that Blue Star and Newcastle Falcons RU chairman David Thompson had “reneged on the deal. We had a deal and they shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it,” Graham continued. “Tommy had a contract with us.
“We were getting nowhere and the FA is well-versed in dealing with these issues.
“I really don’t know what the FA can do and how Blue Star will respond. At the moment it’s not clear.”
Reds No 2 Tony Elliott joined Cassidy in the North-East and skipper Steve Birks soon followed.
“It seriously affected our team,” added Graham.
Cassidy was Reds’ longest-serving manager, at six years, when he left Borough Park, and he later admitting regretting the switch to Newcastle.
